Switching from Typeform to Formlite

An honest look at what it takes to move from Typeform to Formlite—and whether it's right for you.

Why Teams Switch from Typeform

Typeform is a powerful tool, but many teams find themselves paying $25–$83/month for features they don't use. If you're primarily collecting basic information (contact details, feedback, registrations), you're likely overpaying.

Cost Comparison

Typeform Basic ($25/mo) gives you 100 responses/month. Formlite Pro ($12/mo) gives you unlimited responses. That's a 52% cost reduction with no response limits.

Common Migration Reasons

  • Cost: Typeform gets expensive as you scale
  • Complexity: Too many features create cognitive overhead
  • Speed: Building forms takes longer than it should
  • Response limits: Hitting the 100/month cap on Basic plan

What Transfers (and What Doesn't)

Works in Formlite

  • • Text, email, number fields
  • • Multiple choice questions
  • • Dropdown selects
  • • Rating scales
  • • File uploads (Pro)
  • • Email notifications
  • • Custom branding
  • • Multi-step forms

Not Yet Supported

  • • Payment collection
  • • Complex logic jumps
  • • Calculator fields
  • • Video questions
  • • Hidden fields
  • • Zapier (coming soon)

Most teams don't use these features. Check if you actually need them!

The Honest Switching Process

Let's be clear: there's no automatic migration tool. You'll need to manually rebuild your forms in Formlite. Here's what that looks like:

Before You Switch

  • Audit your Typeform forms—how many are actively collecting responses?
  • Check if you use advanced features (logic jumps, payments, Zapier)
  • Export all Typeform responses as CSV (you'll need to save this)
  • Note your branding (colors, logos) to recreate in Formlite
  • Test Formlite first—build one form to see if it fits your workflow

The Switch (Manual Rebuild)

  • Sign up for Formlite (free tier available)
  • Manually rebuild your forms in Formlite—no auto-import available
  • Test each form thoroughly with sample submissions
  • Update links/embeds on your website to point to new forms
  • Set up email notifications (if you had them in Typeform)

After Switching

  • Run both Typeform and Formlite in parallel for 1-2 weeks
  • Monitor for any issues or missing features you didn't anticipate
  • Update internal docs with new form links
  • Once confident, cancel Typeform (but keep exported data)

Recreating Your Forms in Formlite

Formlite's interface is simpler than Typeform's. Here's how the builder differs:

Edit textClick field, edit in sidebarClick inline to edit

Handling Integrations

If you're using Typeform's integrations, here are your options in Formlite:

  • Email notifications: Built-in (works out of the box)
  • Webhooks: Coming in Q1 2025
  • Google Sheets: Export to CSV, import to Sheets
  • Slack: Use email-to-Slack for now
  • Zapier: Planned for Q2 2025

How Long Does It Take?

Rebuilding forms manually takes time. Here's a realistic timeline:

Time Estimate

Expect 15-30 minutes per form depending on complexity. If you have 10 active forms, budget 3-5 hours for the rebuild. Simple contact forms are quick, but multi-step surveys with conditional logic take longer.

Day 1
Try Formlite with one simple form—see if you like the builder
Week 1
Rebuild your 2-3 most important forms, test thoroughly
Week 2-3
Run both tools in parallel, rebuild remaining forms as needed
Week 4
If everything works, cancel Typeform and archive old data

When NOT to Switch

Formlite isn't for everyone. You should probably stay on Typeform if:

  • ✗ You rely heavily on Zapier integrations (we don't have this yet)
  • ✗ You need complex logic jumps or conditional branching
  • ✗ You use payment collection in your forms
  • ✗ You have 20+ active forms and can't spare 10+ hours rebuilding
  • ✗ Your team is already comfortable with Typeform and sees no issues

Formlite is a good fit if: You have 5-10 simple-to-moderate forms, you're frustrated by Typeform's pricing or complexity, and you value a faster, simpler builder. We're ideal for contact forms, feedback surveys, event registrations, and lead capture—not complex calculators or payment flows.

Final Tips

  • ✓ Test Formlite with one form before committing
  • ✓ Export all Typeform data as CSV before canceling
  • ✓ Run both tools in parallel for 2-3 weeks minimum
  • ✓ Don't cancel Typeform until you're 100% confident
  • ✓ Keep your archived Typeform data—you paid for it!
